Kristine Sulca graduated with BSc Honours in Architectural Engineering from University of Westminster in 2010. Prior to my undergraduate degree I had to complete a 12-month foundation degree in Art and Design. Upon completion of this degree I graduated with a merit grade from London Metropolitan University.

As my Part 1 studies began at the University of Westminster, I applied to several practices so that I could gain a direct and first-hand insight to the professional world of architecture. The aim was to build on my Part 1 study by providing me with the professional, practical and theoretical skills which are required of a modern architect. I was fortunate to receive an offer from Terry Farrell and Partners and have worked part-time during my studies and full-time over the summers and a year gaining experience for Part 1.

At the practice I have worked on many projects; some for short periods which required quick learning and understanding, whilst others for longer phases which have allowed me to become more immersed and involved. Having the opportunity to work in a world famous practice has continuously helped me to build my skills and aspirations.

In addition to Terry Farrell’s and partners I completed work experience at a firm named NewTecnic who specialise in facades. The nature of their services means projects are collaborated with leading architects who require specialist knowledge. My work at NewTecnic was exclusively software based, so I was able to build on my existing knowledge of AutoCAD from Farrells, but also master Rhinoceros 3D and Sketchup as part of the role.

At the University of Westminster I covered a broad range of subjects although I chose to focus on Architectural Engineering. This helped me to better understand the technical side of architecture. Having finished the first year at Westminster, my portfolio was named runner up for the CLAWSA award of ‘first year undergraduate, best portfolio’. Completing my final year at Westminster I graduated with a BSc (upper second class honours) in Architectural Engineering. In the main modules of design I attained a 1st grade in both semester one and two.
